For anyone interested in ornaments and patterns Rob Ryan is the man to find out about.
He was inspired by swiss paper cutting.
Rob Ryan uses papercuts to make his silkscreens. I tried his technique. He uses a knife with a number three grip and a 10A blade and draws his designs on paper, then he cuts into 80g paper using the blade. Finally his designs are often used for silkscreen printing by spraying them in black spray varnish.

Rob Ryan quote
“In answer to all your questions, I always use a certain paper to cut on mainly out of habit but just because I just like it ! It is 80gsm uncoated but very smooth stock. We spray using Montana Gold, with a fat cap ! It’s better to put a lot of paint on at once rather than very fine ‘dusty’ coats.
Regarding the printing, we use the original papercuts as artwork , as you would use a film – we expose it directly onto photo emulsion coated screen and then expose to UV etc.”

It has been difficult for me lately to write something new. My days pass while I hold the baby in my arms. But I did manage to leave the house today. Finally.
It was a firm intention of mine to do something for myself even though the baby is here now and requires a lot of attention. So last week I went to buy myself an iPad. Holly Becker recommended using an iPad to blog in her e-course “Blogging Your Way Bootcamp“. Since I own an iPad I am now able to read blogs from my bed or navigate the internet while feedig the baby. For reading blogs I use the Bloglovin app. Since I have an iPad I have learnt a lot about photography. Retouching photos is very different on the iPad compared to using a PC.
I also bought a new SD-card for my Canon EOS 650D camera which can transfer photos to the iPad using wireless transmission. The card is called Eye-Fi. Then there is also the ShutterSnitch app which is used to receive the photos on the iPad before retouching them and saving them on the camera roll. Retouching the photos is done using various apps: I use mainy AfterGlow and Camera+.
I also went to meet curator Marlies Wirth from the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts and Contemporary Art, because I would like to write something about Marco Dessi on this blog. Not about his current exhibition, that is now running at the MAK (STILL LIFE), but one that is shown in a shop window at “The Mall – Wien Mitte“. It is a furniture that Marco Dessi designed specifically for the project and is a reinterpretation of an old cabinet by Dagobert Peche. nike air max cheap
I talked to Marlies Wirth specifically about the genesis of this project at “The Mall – Wien Mitte” and how Dessi related to the the ornamental aspects of Dagobert Peches work. I will be writing about this soon.

I love the colours in this shooting. I love the way white is used to make the different hues come out more.

I also love the way the models lie on the floor. Rather like on the photo above made for NINA LEVETT STUDIO by Alexander GRUEBLING. nike free run sale
